Brian Russell recently secured the conviction of a 39 year old man who had drugged a female victim in a Leeds nightclub before taking her to his hotel and raping her. British Transport Police investigate the case.
Video footage showed the defendant walking around the dance floor with a glass which he did not drink from for about 15 minutes before he offered it to the victim. After taking a drink from it, her condition deteriorated rapidly. The victim had no recollection of what happened until she woke up in a hotel room the next morning. Forensic evidence established she had been raped.
The defendant, at first, denied any sexual activity had taken place. In a second police interview he sought to claim the pair had consensual sex in the morning. He was found guilty after trial in April. He was sentenced on 13th June to an extended sentence of 18 years imprisonment.
