Jessica Randell prosecutes disqualified dangerous driver Nasser Shah for afternoon police chase in Batley.

Jessica Randell appeared in this matter for the Prosecution.

Nasser Shah, 22, was sentenced to a total of 12 months imprisonment by HHJ Khokhar at Leeds Crown Court and was disqualified from driving for 2.5 years with an extended re-test ordered.

At 13.22 on the 18th May 2017, police officers attempted to stop Shah for driving without a seatbelt but, as they attempted to do so, Shah accelerated away from officers. Thereafter, a police chase followed with Shah failing to give way at junctions, accelerating to 50mph in 30mph zones whilst overtaking other vehicles and driving on the wrong side of the road.

Shah was arrested from his vehicle and admitted that he should not have been driving as he was disqualified.

Shah has previous convictions for driving a vehicle with excess alcohol on two previous occasions (February and December 2015) and was disqualified from driving on both occasions. The latter of which resulted in a ban from 8/12/15 to 7/12/18.
